Far Eastern regions are preparing for a season of possible floods and fires

Improving the work to protect the population and territories of the Far East from fires and floods, as well as measures taken in the district’s constituent entities to prevent natural emergencies, were discussed at a meeting of the Council of the Far Eastern Federal District. The meeting was held under the leadership of the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation - Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Far Eastern Federal District of Yuri Trutnev. As the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation reported, at the end of last year, 11.6 thousand forest fires broke out across the country on forest lands. The area covered by the fire was about 4.3 million hectares. 30% (3519) of forest fires occurred in the Far East. This year, the fire season has been declared in seven regions of the Far Eastern Federal District - Buryatia, Transbaikalia, Primorye, Khabarovsk, Amur and Sakhalin Regions, and the Jewish Autonomous Okrug. A special fire prevention regime has been established in 125 municipal districts.
